Subvertisement

So does anyone have plans for Christmas??

Sweet Ad Anthony!

That McDonalds Ad is awesome. I like the heart rate monitor thing thats cool.

Here is my final remix, I'm pretty happy with the changes that I made. I was still able to write an essay on it so thats good I guess.

anthony...

essay is goin alright. since there wasnt really any guidelines per say, im being a bit creative.

using klein mainly to structure the paper as a whole then using some quotes from the others to strengthen a couple points. i hope thats enough.
=>We only have to do one subvertisement
Very nice ad! I like the concept of the heart monitor and nice incorporation of Pricken's book.
Must admit, I encountered a similar problem...Oakley was looking too flawless so now I'm going with GM's Hummer.
How is everyone's essay coming along?
allison

so

do we do 1 or 2 subvertisements? right now i just got 1 and only talked bout in my essay.

Monday, November 24, 2008

That's a pretty sweet advert. I like how you incorporated the ideas from the Pricken book.

Good luck with the essay, now that you actually have material to write about.

Those glue boys are a little too squeaky clean... it makes me suspicious.

Ian.

Anthony...

so elmer's glue is pretty much a flawless, upstanding corporation, that is incrdibly difficult to subvertise...so i had to change.

here's one idea. its a subvertisement of that mcdonalds sundial ad in pricken book where the shadow reflect on what mcdonalds product to eat.

anthony opinions...

the truck is one is hilarious and good. my issues with the other one stem mainly from the grave itself. using the cross like that has too many religious connotations and misses the point i a little bit.

maybe if you did the traditional oval-topped kinda stone that says RIP _____ it would come off more clear.

Thursday, November 13, 2008

I think it should be TREEMENDOUS with the "TREE" in orange - to like up with the other ads.

In addition the orange peel on the grave is a sweet idea, but the spiraling doesn't make sense right now. Might have to rework it.

On the whole both ads feel good... On the whole.

nicki's subs

gimme some suggestions, yo

few changes.

Here's my subvertisement..
Anthony, I really like the slogan "We can fix that". It works perfectly with your ad.
Ian, I like the concept you developed. I think the idea of the heart is somewhat lost with the simpler ad though.
allison

anthony...

i have no idea. its the only possible outside problem someone in a far away land might have with elmer's glue.
I agree the simpler one works better.

Yours is pretty sweet too, really hits home.

I wonder if Elmers is a big brand among glue sniffers... Weird.

Michelle - remix ads

so these are a few ideas I have for the remix ad lete me know what you think, they still need some improving

Thursday, November 6, 2008

Here are my final ads. I adjusted the size of the product text on the top poster in the bottom left hand corner to give it more emphasis.

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

i even did a third one...

"taking it literally"

Anthony Humpty

next one...parody...
... it's like WHITE glue and WHITE space... TOGETHER...

... you're like SO deep...

In all seriousness I like it.

Ian.

Anthony Ad Attempts...

here's one using repetition and accumulation, as well as creative use of white space.

Anthony Input...

Ian, both those ads are vastly improved. not too sure about the text wrapping around the shoe tho. if you could make it a bit more precise id say keep it, but if not, id just keep the text straight.

ps. erratic attic

pps. popcorn mustache was a success, 85, and 80...not bad. not bad at all.
Thanks for the input Allison. I agree that the "blazer sb" text seems out of place and it was one of my personal criticisms. I had initially wrapped it around the heel like you mentioned, but for some reason didn't stick with it. Perhaps I'll give it another look to see if it compliments the design better.

Thanks again,

Ian.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Ian, I really like your ads. Both of your ads are original and provide a new angle to Nike's advertising campaign. The maze and corresponding slogan complement each other nicely, and the check mark in the maze ties the design together.

You mentioned you were looking for a different slogan for the other ad, but I think the current one you have is effective. And the addition of the text, "use repsonsibly", provides a nice touch of humour to the ad. The only thing I would change is the "blazer sb" text because I think the curving of it creates too much noise and the positioning of it at the top of the shoe detracts from the text at the bottom. Maybe shift the text at the bottom to the left slightly and wrap the "blazer sb" text around the heel of the shoe?

Here's my two new Nike ads. Same goes for the earlier post. If you have any suggestions, let me know.

Thanks,

Ian.
hey guys. here's the first of my reworked nike ads. let me know what you think.

I'm still not 100% on the slogan "for the every day get away". If you can think of anything better I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Ian.

Anthony's Ad Drafts...

Hey guys, these are (sadly) my best attempts at photoshop! The first one uses the "Spoofs and Parodies" method, and the second one uses the "Without Words" method.

Here are the rough drafts of my kickstart ads for Oakley O Frame Iridium goggles.

The banner..

looks good. I like it, I like it a lot. 394 unique hits seems like a lot, I wonder how it compares to the other groups. I guess we can always take pride in the fact that we used real, ethical marketing techniques and didn't piss anyone off or screw people over too.

Good luck on the essays guys. See you tomorrow.

on three...1.2.3.splinter!

-Anthony
Ian - thanks for sending the banner. It has now been added to the site.
394 unique hits as of today!!!
Allison,

I sent you a "Click to Enter" banner that should fit over top of the POPCORNMUSTACHE.COM banner on the middle right of our site.

Ian.
Good call Michelle. I'll add some text along the lines of, click here to enter, to the site today.

Nicki, for photoshop in class we use CS2. You'd be fine with 6.0 7.0 CS2 or CS3.

i'm so impressed by us.
we're totally gonna win./
does anyone know off the top of their head which version of photoshop we use in advertising? i need to download it to my computer so i wanna make sure i have the right one.
thanks!
-nicki

Michelle - more hits!!!

I'm concerned that the people going to our site aren't continuing, It's easy to go to the site and then leave to another page without clicking the background. Maybe if we could ad something like "enter" or "continue" or "click here" more people will go to the GRFF site. I might be worth trying for the next few days.

Michelle - more hits!

Hey guys! We now have a video up on youtube. search "popcorn mustache" to see it. I put in a bunch of key words like "mccain" and "obama" etc to attract other viewers. So hopefully this will get up some more hits.
Also, nicki could you bring either a page of the stickers or a sticker sheet to class so I can print more out and do some more vandilism. Thx.
Oh and I found some posters with a suspicious address. I'm thinking it might be from one of the teams. If I get some stickers I can do some damage.
How are the essays coming?

Your ads look great Michelle! I like the concept of the steering wheel for driving the snowboard. I'm actually doing ski goggles for mine - similar theme!

That's awesome that you popcorn-mustached bomber Nicki! I finished going through MC with stickers and I also ran into classrooms and wrote it on all the blackboards in the labs in MC. Also, I put some in Dana Porter - especially on fifth floor by all the computer terminals.

Our hit count for absolute unique hits is...256!!!

We've had 272 visits, 351 page views and an average time of 17 sec spent on our page per visit.

more kickstart ads

So these are some other kickstart ads that I did but I'm not going to use them. They are for bed head salon products

Michelle - Kickstart ads

So these are my kick start ads. They are for Burton snowboards.

bomber's been pimped!

hey kids.
the bomber has officially been exclusively tagged. i got posters up on the walls in the bar and in the bathrooms, and stickers in the bathroom and on some of the napkin dispensers. i'll make sure no one else tries any funny business like tryin to invade our turf. someone wanna update me on our hit count?
also, can someone email me that list that i sent you regarding our essay? just wanna double check it.
thanks, hope your octoberfest weekends were spectacular!

We said

parody, not paradox.

Sharpie Ad - Michelle

my ad suggests the idea that sharpies are a quality art material that enables artists to create great masterpieces.

I think our popcorn mustache idea is more of absurd, surreal or bizarre, in the kickstart book.
What absurd or bizarre ideas can the product be associated with?
